I was in Court last week where I was able to see a great change to the system
When a matter is listed for mention in Court it, and usually 20 to 30 other matters, are also there on the day waiting when you arrive to be dealt with by the Judge
What usually happens is the work is done by the solicitors outside the courtroom and the day is spent negotiating a resolution.
Once this is achieved, the documents are then prepared and signed off by the parties.Once a settlement has been reached (which is usually the case) the parties and solicitors often wait quite a period of time to be “slotted in” while the Judge deals with other matters that haven’t resolved.
A simple but effective solution has been found.
Now, after advising the Court officer the matter has settled, they request a Registrar of the Court see the parties in another court room.
The parties and lawyers are taken to that Court convened by the Registrar who makes the orders without delay allowing the Judge to continue his or her important work without interruption.
Because I take my laptop and I use a very advanced computer system called LEAP, after Court, I immediately email to the associate the orders for sealing by the Court officer. My orders are often with the court officers before he or she returns to their desk.
Orders are then issued with only a very minimal delay.
An Absolutely Brilliant Idea!
